Painted Piano {a few little tips along the way}

Painted Piano

I finally did it. I decided in 2011 to paint the piano. I couldn’t take it apart because I didn’t have the key to unlock the top. Well, I got that in 2012. And still it sat. I just had so many other things I wanted to do and I did not love the idea of moving the piano and spending all the time it would take to paint it.

Well, this week my husband was out of town at a trade show, and my sewing machine was broken. What else is a girl to do but paint a piano?!

Ready, Set, Go!

Months and months after deciding to paint my piano, this is how it sits today.

Still the same. Oh, I bought the paint and lacquer eons ago as well, but it’s all been sitting around waiting.

Waiting for what? Thanks for asking. Waiting for a key. See, the top was locked, and my aunt couldn’t find the key. I called around, since it’s just one of those little ones with a number on it, thinking I could buy a new one. Well, nobody would just sell me a key, since it’s the same kind as those filing cabinet keys. I could be trying to break into my cubicle neighbor’s cabinet at work and steal the cup o soup in her drawer for lunch. I would have to pay a fortune for a locksmith to come to my house, look at the piano and the number on the key and hand me a $2 key.

That House

Every neighborhood has one, right? You know, “that house” where the paint is chipping, and the morning glory is overtaking the grass and the tree has been dead for two years and still, it’s just sitting there mocking you every time you walk by?

Well, I am here to admit that in my neighborhood, I own “that house.” So this weekend we decided to do something about it. I walked into my husband’s office at about 11:30 and said, “What would you say if I said I wanted to paint the door blue?” His answer? “Which door, like, the front door?” I’m pretty sure my grin said it all.
