EZ Dresden Inspiration & A Giveaway

Since I finished a traditional Dresden quilt earlier this year, I knew that I wanted to go in a different direction with this challenge. Still a traditional block, I used the EZ Dresden ruler to create tumblers.

I’ve been wanting to play with a tumbler quilt for a while, and this was the perfect time. I cut 6″ strips of each of the fabrics in Violet Craft‘s Peacock Lane collection, which I’ve been hoarding since it came out, added in a few coordinating Kona solids, cut my wedges (or tumblers, depending on how they’re used) and started sewing them together in pairs.

Lazy No More

Monday was a holiday here. Memorial Day… A day to celebrate our heroes and remember those who have passed before us.

If you’re me, the day was spent laying in bed in jammies all day long having a Harry Potter movie marathon. Seriously, all day in bed. Thank goodness for a hubby who took the kids outside to play while he did yard work, made all the meals (including pancakes in bed for me) and generally did everything. I wasn’t sick or anything, I just didn’t feel like getting up! Please tell me I’m not the only one with days like those.

Challenge Accepted

Have you heard about the EZ Dresden challenge the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild is hosting?

Several of our members met Darlene Zimmerman at Spring Quilt Market in Salt Lake last year, and we’ve been working on a little challenge using one of her rulers. Our little challenge got big. We’ve been able to line up some great sponsors for prizes including a Singer sewing machine, Gutterman thread cabinet, fabric bundles from Robert Kaufman, and even a quilt made by Darlene herself! How exciting would that be?
