Once upon a time, I used to cross stitch a lot. I have a lot of projects that sort of got pushed to the side over time. Suddenly, cross stitch is back! And it’s back with an adorable vengeance, thanks in part to companies like The Frosted Pumpkin.

I ordered their Dessert of the Month as soon as Amanda tweeted about it. It’s been nice to sit and pass the time with something small while Brad’s away this week on business. oh, and to re-watch last season of Downton Abbey before I start watching this season.

I really planned on making a sampler for the year, but when I was done with this cute little guy, I just couldn’t put him away until next month. I will still probably do a sampler, but in the meantime, here’s what I decided to do with my little desserts:

I cut squares of cardboard, batting and one of those refrigerator magnets that come advertising local businesses. Then I cut out my truffle a little bit bigger than those squares and snipped out the corners. Glue the batting to the cardboard, then cover it with the linen I stitched my truffle on. Glue all around the edge of the back side of the cardboard and wrap the linen around. Me more layer of glue on the back to attach the magnet and let it sit under something heavy for an hour or so.

When you’re all done, you’ve got a super cute champagne truffle magnet for your fridge. It was the perfect solution for me, since I have really no wall space in my kitchen. I’m sure I will do this with a lot more of my monthly desserts, then stitch up a sampler at the end of the year. This took no time at all to stitch, so I won’t mind doing it again.

And it got me back in the cross stitch groove! I’m ready to pull out an adorable snowman project I started so many years ago and never finished.

We painted these for a friend of my mom’s who lives in Seattle. We’ve got about two dozen to do for ourselves now. I can’t wait to do one with the word recipe and clip up the recipe card I’m using while I cook. That way it won’t get all dirty sitting on my counter getting splashed with ingredients.

While I was at the DI the other day (the DI is my local version of Goodwill) I picked up a few other frames, because when they’re $1 each, I’m sure I will find something to do with them. I already had an idea for one.

The Creative Crate is one of those blogs I look to lots for inspiration. Usually when I see someone’s idea, it really is just inspiration - I use it to spark my own imagination and let my creativity flow like with the menu board.

However, this time I just plain made what she did. Almost exactly the same way. So, here’s my version of her dry-erase calendar made from an old frame.

Before:

I painted it black, traced lines for my calendar on the glass, cut out little circles with my cricut, and hung it on the wall. Stacie has great directions over at her site, so check them out if you have questions and want to make your own. Warning… you’ll probably be there for a while exploring all the other fun things she has!

After:

I’m pretty happy with it. Although, my frame is just 11 x 14… I may have to try it again with a bigger frame so I have more room to write. Of course, I need more things to fill up my calendar with before I really need more room.

I think then I might make something like this to hang pens right next to it.
