It’s been a while… but I’m working away. I’ve got lots of things to show you, but with lots of projects also comes no time to blog!

Here’s a peek at what I’ve been up to:

I’m slowly quilting my Little Apples dresden quilt. Whoever thought it would be fun to do some echo quilting around all those dresden plates was incorrect. But it will look amazing when it’s done in 20 years.

My baby is turning two this week. We’re having a little baseball birthday party for her, so I upcycled one of her daddy’s old work shirts into a dress for the party. {OK, truth be told, I made the dress, thought it looked like a little baseball shirt, and the theme for the party was born.}

I’ve also been making baby shower gifts and lot of product for a little online boutique sale I’ve got coming up. I’ll share more details of both soon! {Also a little website redesign is in the works.}

Remember all of these? Well, I’m getting ready to list clothing in my shop now! I started with this favorite of Lottie’s. She gets all excited for her “Mi-ee-mouse” dress.

She loves her Mickey Mouse! I love that she can wear something Mickey without it being so obvious!

A little reverse-applique Mickey detail keeps it subtle, but she sure knows he’s there.

And it’s comfy enough that she can run and play and get down on the ground with her friends. (Yeah, that would be her friends the bugs. She loves little bugs. A lot. And sometimes the bugs she picks up are not so little!)

Super cute little model, right? But that leads me to my next problem… she’s just one size! And she’s not a boy. Not that that is really a big problem, unless you’re trying to photograph clothing. Which leads me to this:

Remember how my sister-in-law is an awesome photographer? Well, she’s going to do a photo shoot for me to showcase my new designs. Now I just need the children. Which is where you come in. I need your help!

Just visit our pages on Facebook (Kate Johnson Photography & The Busy Bean), and submit a picture of your child to me to enter. I will pick three boys and three girls of varying ages and sizes to model my clothing. Your child will be pampered with a photo shoot, and each will get a special something for participating.

Pass this along to anyone who has adorable kids (and really, what kids we all know aren’t adorable) who would love to help a friend out!

p.s. I took these pictures of Lottie in the park today. Katie will take much better pictures of your kids!

I know, you’re expecting a new bag, right?

You would be wrong, sir. Lately I’ve been sewing a lot… I know you wouldn’t know that because there’s been nothing on my blog or new etsy shop listings. But really I have been sewing a lot. Mostly clothes. I am having so much fun sewing dresses for my little girls and their cousin!

This is Jane – I made a pattern last night and was able to sew this up today.

Jane Front

This one is made with Joel Dewberry’s Modern Meadow line. I absolutely love his fabric designs.

Jane Ruffle

A little navy ruffle at the bottom to match the collar.

Jane button collar

She hooks with a button in the back (and a second button on the other side, just so she’s not lopsided!)

I’m just loving the basic look of the dress with the graphic fabric. I got all excited to make this last night after reading my sister’s blog. She went to Europe and just got back. Her flight was a little delayed in Atlanta, so she got the chance to see the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. What does that have to do with this dress? Well, if you live in my brain you logically make the leap from Jimmy Carter to JFK (sister’s favorite president) to his wife. And this style reminds me of her classic style. She had such grace, didn’t she?

I’m linking up to Lucky Linky Tuesday

Penny and I are in a fight. Remember that from when you were kids? How you and your best friend would be “in a fight” so you’d go find a new “best friend” until you suddenly were bff’s with your old best friend again? Well, that’s what it’s like for Penny and me right now. We’re in a fight – but don’t worry, I have a feeling that we’ll make up pretty soon. (And by that, I mean I figured out how to fix her so she’s exactly what I want her to be – which is what being a bff is all about when you’re 5. So, obviously I’m a five-year-old this week.)

Anyway, while I was fighting with Penny, I saw this post about a cute toddler skirt. I loved the fabrics, so while I was at my local quilt shop I picked up a charm pack of L’Amour by Moda and made a skirt for my Bear. (She’s not quite two, so she hasn’t quite learned yet that she needs to strike a pose that accentuates the skirt when mama’s using her as a model!)

So cute, and perfect for Valentine’s Day. I have plenty of fabric left to make one for her little sister, so I think I’ll take some pictures along the way with that one and post a tutorial!
