How To: Water Resistant Sling Pouch with Exposed Zipper

This one came about specifically with a trip to Disneyland in mind. You’ve got to take your phone and wallet with you, but  there are all those rides where you get splashed, so here’s my solution: a small pouch you can sling over your shoulder, it fits your phone and a card wallet, plus chapstick and lip gloss. And the best part? It’s lined with vinyl to protect your stuff from splashing water. Now, it’s not water-proof. Don’t go dropping it in a pond and then get mad at me when your phone is ruined. But it will keep it safe from Splash Mountain.

Houndstooth Tote – Summer Sewing Tutorial

Today it’s my turn to share my project for Jennifer’s Summer Sewing Contest.

Ellison Lane Quilts

I made this tote for Amanda last year, and I’ve been meaning to get this tutorial written up ever since. This is the perfect bag to throw your stuff in for a trip to the pool, or the park, or anywhere you need to go this summer.

Remember Penny?

No? Is that because you have better things to do than ponder new bags I have been working on since January? That’s right, way back on January 9th I said I’d introduce you to Penny “sometime next week.”

Well, I didn’t forget Penny. She just needed a little refinement before being brought out into society. But she’s ready now.

May I present:

She’s a cross-shoulder “mail bag.” Which is why I could only think of the name Newman way back when I was picturing her in my head. {You know, Newman from Seinfeld?} Yeah, this bag is way too classy for that. She can be worn across the shoulder, but she’s not too tall to drape on one:

“Katie”

My sister-in-law Kate (who is an awesome photographer, BTW, check out her site) wanted the perfect diaper bag. I think we came pretty close with this one.

The outside of “Katie” is sleek and smooth, with three pockets for anything you want quick access to. “Katie” is very roomy inside, with pockets fit especially for diapers and wipes, two pockets for bottles on the sides, a big zipper pocket and even a hidden zipper pocket for medicines – easy enough for grownups to open, but hard enough that children won’t get in! The inside is fully lined with vinyl so spills wipe right out.
