June 2011

For six whole days it has been closer to Christmas Future than Christmas Past. (Yup, I did the math.) I could feel I was getting anxious about something… and when I turned on my Christmas Punk playlist today to drown out the angry music coming from the other side of my cubicle wall, I knew that was it. It’s time to start getting excited for Christmas!

So today I started by gathering and pinning ideas for new Christmas stockings.

I’ve had this idea for a new bag floating around in my head for a while. I’ve gone back and forth on so many aspects of it. Yesterday I finally made up my mind and made it a reality! (Plus, I was kind of waiting for my shipment of Aviary 2 by Joel Dewberry to arrive before I made it.) It’s so very summery! Plus, it’s not quite as big as the last one I was carrying, but still big enough… right now it’s packed with my Stephanie, my Monica, my iPad, Weekend Sewing, two novels, my camera, and the rest of my miscellaneous purse stuff (you know, gum, headphones, inhaler, etc.) and there would still be plenty of room for a diaper and wipes – essential when I go out with the kids.

I promise I’ve been sewing. And sewing and sewing and sewing. I just haven’t taken a lot of pictures.

I made place mats for my friend, and didn’t take any pics before I gave them to her.

I have caught up on all my bee blocks, and I do have pictures that I will try to remember to actually pull off the camera. Here are a few I snapped with my iPhone.

I sent off my scrappy mug rug to Molly.

So, here’s what I’m thinking for the fabrics on my Fenced In quilt. I’m not sure still about the solid I’ll be adding, but I love this mix of colors. And thanks to Jennifer, I think I got my values right…

When I made my first quilt, I went to the fabric store and grabbed what I loved that went in the colors I was looking for. Then I kind of got stuck on the “use the same fabric line” kind of thinking. While there’s nothing wrong with that, I think I had a lot more fun last night picking up the four fabrics I had from Innocent Crush, then grabbing other stuff from my stash to add to it.

I really had the best intentions of editing all my quilt market pics and getting a long overdue post up about my favorites. Not going to happen until at least next week.

Instead, I’ll just point you to my latest adventure:

My friend Amy has an awesome idea. Kind of like Julie & Julia – but with Elizabeth Hartman‘s The Practical Guide To Patchwork.

So, she’s going to work her way through all the quilts in the book, in order. And since I have that book and love the great patterns and instructions in it, I’m going to join her. First up is Fenced In. I’m thinking some of my Innocent Crush. Or maybe Soul Blossoms?
