September 2010

The theme of the painting convention I attended last week was “Dreaming in Color.” It was amazing. The Northwest Toleliners chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters puts this on every two years in Seattle. On alternating years the Raindrop Chapter has theirs in Portland.  They had a butterfly and dreamcatcher thing going on. Each of us received a hand-painted butterfly pin to wear during the convention. They were so beautiful.

Here’s a look at the classes I took and what I learned (Warning – this is long… but has pretty pictures!):

I got back late last night from my painting convention. What a blast. It was wonderful to spend some time with my mom and nobody else (except for hundreds of other crazy decorative painters)!

It was kind of a rough trip – I went while getting over a cold, which turned into bronchitis on the plane, exacerbated my asthma and sent me to the ER Friday night. A few breathing treatments and a lot of medication later, I was back painting on Saturday, missing only one class!

Birthday Bug

My little Kelsey Bug is turning one next week. I just can’t believe it! She is so much fun to be around… she giggles like crazy, plays peek-a-boo and claps her hands at everything.

Naturally, I’m in the middle of planning her party. I have big plans for it – cookies in the shape of little birds to match her quilt, decorations of little tree branches with cute stuffed birds the other kids can take home with them, lots of yummy food, and of course a cute little dress for the Bug. Well guess what. None of that’s going to happen!

Fact #1: I love a good book. Reading has always been something I enjoy…  from historical non-fiction to a good cheesy novel and everything in between.

Fact #2: I have OCD. Legitimately, not just “I like things to be in order.” I seriously think dire things will happen (like my house will explode) if I start the stairs on the wrong foot. Although, OCD aside, I do like things to be in order.

Those facts together explain why my new book is so stressful for me. But obviously my friend thinks reading this book will be therapeutic for me (thanks Laura). Because reading this book involves doing crazy things to this book. Like this:

SJS seeks SQM

For those of you not in the know, I will translate the sewing machine singles ad: Single Juki Serger seeks Single Quilting Machine.

Or, the one in which Eunice is looking for her Mr. Larrabee. But wait, you say, Howard Bannister just moved into your house in December, and you loved going into the closet with him! Well, yes, I did. But sadly, Howard Bannister just had too many issues. He really couldn’t stand up to all I put him through. And when I took him in to be repaired for the third time (2nd time for the same issue) I just knew he couldn’t come home with me.
